TYPES OF TREATMENT
Haertha offers multiple types of services related to the heat treatment of steels. The following is a brief description of each.
Hardening
It is a treatment that aims to increase the hardness of steel by altering its structure. It involves heating the steel to controlled temperatures defined by steelmakers for treatment (which depends on the composition, size and chemical form) in a controlled atmosphere furnace, followed by a quench injecting nitrogen. The material acquires a martensitic structure with much higher hardness.
Stress Relieving
Material predisposed to deformation with several sections, machining parts and difficult parts in the hardening, must undergo a stress relief after buffing or just before the finish or pre-machining, in order to minimize the deformation in the hardening. It involves heating followed by slow cooling without changing the original qualities of the material.

Temper
Tempering is done to increase the toughness (resistance to strong pressure without rupture) after hardening the material. The increase toughness is obtained on one side by removing stresses produced in the hardening and secondly by relaxing the structure through quenching with a consequent reduction in the hardness obtained after hardening. The correct temperature and the treatment time depends on the hardness of quenching and mechanical properties required by the material.
Nitriding
It is a thermochemical surface treatment which improves hardness in the material by diffusion of nitrogen (N2) and ammonia (NH3).
